FALL/WINTER 2015/2016 POLISSYA / NEW YORK FASHION WEEK
The capsule collection "Polissya" by Margarita Kozak is one of the twelve segments that make up a unique collaborative collection of Ukrainian fashion designers called "Most Beloved." The designers, united under the project "Fashion Globus Ukraine," created this collection specifically for the New York Fashion Week.
Presenting the Ukrainian historical region Polissya on the New York Fashion Week catwalk, Margarita Kozak prepared a collection of five models that showcase the traditional clothing of this Ukrainian region through the prism of contemporary fashion.
Interpreting the traditional Ukrainian costume in a fashionable way, Margarita Kozak works with fitted and flared silhouettes. The color scheme chosen by the designer for the collection goes beyond the classic combination of white and red. The collection is enlivened with natural colors inspired by the picturesque nature of Polissya, including green, burgundy, brown, blue, orange, and yellow.
The collection is built on a contrasting combination of heavy jacquard skirts with lightweight chiffon and crochet blouses. Fashionable short and long skirts with pleats draw attention to the quality and beauty of relief jacquard fabrics. The accompanying knitted blouses are handmade without seams, using the designer's proprietary technique. Each blouse is uniquely adorned in Margarita Kozak's manner. Folk motifs are clearly visible in every detail of the decoration, such as floral embroidery, delicate lace, wooden beads and vibrant three-dimensional chiffon flowers. Such adornments transform the presented knitted and chiffon blouses with open shoulders into exclusive festive attire.
The central piece of the collection is a light chiffon wedding dress in a folk style, generously embellished with embroidery, lace, and Swarovski crystals. In creating this design, the designer incorporated elements of the Ukrainian national costume, such as the plakhta skirt and a wide embroidered belt.
